Mr Brown, thank you for all that you have done for our country, in a time where such a job has perhaps been a thankless task. We are all grateful for your continuing dignity and honour, for providing us with a positive and inspiring rolemodel, and for being a statesman any country would be proud of. Wishing you, and your family, the very best for the future, Aimee.

So very annoyed with the media. They hounded and blackened your name. nothing but sensationalist bast**ds!! They have no respect for what you have done for the country. You will be greatly missed. I only hope the tories don't drag this country back to the Maggie days. Those days were bleak for my parent's generation and I don't want history to repeat itself. Love to you, Sarah and the family, Melissa xxx

Dear Mr Brown,
I am really upset at the time of writing this because I feel that this country has misunderstood yourself and the Labour party in general. Thank you ever so much for your dedication to serving this country. You are a great statesman.

Thank-you for all you have done and for all that you planned to do. The UK was a better, safer, more just place with you as PM. I wish you could continue. Your Prime Ministership led us through some of the worst times the UK has known - times that would have been immeasurably worse had you not been at the helm. What drove you out was a deceitful and unethical disgrace. You rose above it, untainted by the slime around you. Thank-you.

I'm proud to have been a Labour voter whilst you have been our Prime Minister. Thank you for everything you have done for the people of the United Kingdom particularly the pensioners. My mum is very grateful indeed! Shirley

Dear Gordon
Thank you for all your hard work, dedication and commitment to making this country a better place to live again after all of the damage of the Thatcher years. You have been the best PM in my lifetime and have made so many changes for the better. I am only sorry that you have been judged harshly by the media for the messes that were not your doing (namely the war and the economy), that you have worked hard to help us as a country to recover from. You have shown your integrity and dedication to your country with your decision to resign today. I am only sad that we will no longer have you around to sort out the economy. If anyone could then it was you. I wish you and your family the very best for the future. You will be greatly missed.
Very best wishes
Tracy

Gordon,
Good luck with everything you do in the future, and thank you for making it possible for me to get the treatment I needed for my breast cancer. I know doctors and nurses were involved along the way but you facilitated them being there. In addition I managed to get to university as a single parent, that would never have happened under the tories. Its such a shame people can't see the good you and others in the labour party have done. I think you are a principled leader and you did us proud.

Just a short note of gratitude. I believe that the nation is losing the most conscientious prime minister to have served during my lifetime, and probably for a great deal longer than that. I despaired of the Labour Party under Tony Blair, but I believe that you put the 'Labour' part ahead of the 'New' part and continued to work unstintingly towards the ideals which have sustained the Labour movement since it's earliest days.
I am ashamed to live in a country in which foreign-owned media interests and overseas money can remove such an experienced, hard-working and caring prime minister at a time when the qualities you have consistently displayed in office are just what we need. You have served your country as well as anybody ever could have, and you deserve a far better press than you have received. You will be missed.
I hope that life after Downing Street will be pleasureable and rewarding for you and Sarah.
With very best wishes,
Lynn Davies

Thank you so much for everything Gordon. You have done our country proud and I feel that it is a disgusting situation that the media has manipulated the general public into thinking pretentious, arrogant, idiots like David Cameron would have the strength and skill to do what you manage so well - the country and economy would crash under Tory government, i can only pray that they do not get the oppertunity to destroy all of your hard work. I wish you and your family all the best and will continue to support labour after your regretful departure.

Dear Gordon
I don't usually contribute to internet bloggs but on this occasion I feel I have to add my husband and my heartfelt thanks to you for the massive contribution you made for the people of this country. It sadens me that people have such short memories that they (especially in England) have forgotten what a mess the tories left us in before. A great number of MPs should take a leaf out of your book and be as dedicated to their principals as you have shown to yours. I am disgusted with MPs and newspapers who stoop to gutter level - if you can't beat them on policies attack them personally seems to be their motto. You have risen above this, remained dignified, honest and forthright especially in the last few days, which to me has shown our country and the world the true gentleman that you are. My family as a whole are so sorry to see you go and the British political system has lost a great leader and politician who has stood by his convictions.
My husband and I are loyal labour supporters and will continue to be so till the end - no matter what. As OAPs we send our grateful thanks for the many things you have done to help us.
We send our very best wishes to you, Sarah and the boys.

My eyes have not dried up since I heard the news. Being one of your constituents for years and also fellow Langtonian, I had always 110% trust and faith in you and knew you were your own true self all the way through. Those that supported you seen past what fickleminded people saw and seen you were a fair, caring, determined man who totally believed in what was best for the country. Your country even though many treated you like a foreigner in it because you happened to be born in Scotland. All us avid and faithful supporters of you, know that those up and down the country that couldn't see past such pettymindedness will one day realise what a fine, fine and very clever economist you were......sadly when our country goes to the wall and it will! I have such bitter loathing for all things Tory but even worse...Murdoch media who was like a bad virus spreading dirt, nastiness, bias and lies about you and Labour. This country was taken over by Murdoch and his censorship....our Democracy stolen by a man not even British. Many of us did not listen and shame on you all that did! I am lucky like all us Fifers that we get our kind, caring and totally decent lad back home. Here you know you were always believed and when things got tough it was back home you came to remember the fair minded, honest caring folk that grew up with the very same family values. You were and always will be to many up and down the country......our elected PM from our hearts. I've never wanted to be a "told you so!" person and even though we, the Brownites will suffer too for the wrong, wrong choices of others I will shout very loudly and with disgust at those that judged you so very wrongly for many reasons. God bless Gordon! Many people will still benefit around the world for your unstinting devotion to doing what is right and fair in this world for the less fortunate.x
